Yamaha XS850G 1980.
My first Japanese bike, bought in 1996 in Vancouver, Canada
for $1800 CAD, 8,000 km on the odometer with new tires and battery; perfect shape.
This winter (2000/2001) under total restoration:
New
Hagon
shocks,
Galfer
stainless steel brake lines,
new seat,
32" wide dragbar,
new mirrors, black painted fenders, new battery, new
MAC
3in1 exhaust, engine overhaul.
I'm also thinking of getting rid of the factory airbox and installing K&N filters,
and, if doable - replacing factory wheels with wire-spoke wheels. Perhaps next winter...
Poor Triple was abandoned for the last 2 years, I rode my other bike - VMax.
VMax is OK, but XS rides better, especially in the city. I enjoy it much better
then kick-ass VMax :)
As a die-hard Internet user, all parts for the Triple resoration, were found and ordered
on the Internet. As a result of my research, this website came out.
I hope that all Triple enthusiasts will find it useful.
In some cases it's quite difficult to find good and cheap parts. E.g. rear shocks -
the best deal I could get was British
Hagon -
$168 + shipping. Progressive Suspension are easy to get, but much more expensive and
not looking that good :)
Same problem with a seat. Saergant charges muuuuch more than
BH.
It's easy to buy all parts, but it seems likely to triple bike's value by doing that :)
